Refuge Canada - Interactive
Refugees face fear, shattered lives and often dangerous voyages in search of refuge. Canada has provided that refuge for many. However, over the course of the twentieth century, Canada has had a mixed record in welcoming refugees, reacting generously to some while overlooking others. Refuge Canada provides the context for Canada’s place in the global refugee crisis and brings to light the challenges faced by refugees in Canada.

Working with Form Media in Nova Scotia, Canada, we designed a clean graphic interface for the interactive touch screens for the Refuge Canada Exhibition on display at the Canadian Museum of Immigration in Halifax.
Using a very limited colour palette, we settled on a simple creative approach that took inspiration from the 'disorientation' that refugees experienced while being displaced from their homes. Other interactive screens were influenced by the heavy bold pen markings found on 'dossiers' that officials would use to 'allow' or 'deny entry' to refugees coming in to Canada.
